What it trains
- Compass headings
- Relative turns
- Orientation discipline
What the debrief covers
- Heading-change accuracy
- Left/right turn consistency
- Compass wrap-around errors
How to approach it
- 1Headings run clockwise from 000 to 359 degrees: a right turn adds, a left turn subtracts.
- 2Wrap around north: anything past 360 loses 360, anything below 000 gains 360.
- 3For the reciprocal, add 180 to headings below 180 and subtract 180 from the rest.
Worked example
Heading 330, turn right 50 degrees
330 + 50 = 380. That passes north, so subtract 360: 380 − 360 = 020.
Answer: 020
Common mistakes
- Forgetting to wrap past north and answering 380 instead of 020.
- Applying a left turn as an addition under time pressure.
